I have a Dream

May 19, 2021

AN OLD OAK GIVES US A FEW THOUGHTS ON A VISION OF FUTURE FORESTS.

I have a dream. Oh Yes! One of so many uplifting dreams,

My days are nearly spent and what I cling on to are some very powerful dreams,

I hope so much we can all go back to a time when trees and humanity were as one together,

And never fearing one another but living and breathing and declining all in one place together.

I have a dream. Oh Yes! One vivid dream foremost among so many dreams,

Diversity in all its forms has to be the key to fulfilling this dearest of dreams,

Nurturing a whole array of trees from oak and ash through to fir and pine,

And all these trees from places near and far could in time form many forests so fine.

I have a dream. Oh Yes! Just one of some very deep dreams,

In a time so long ago this country was full of trees and their venerable dreams,

In those olden days the brehon laws and oak circles were symbols of people living with trees,

And while animals have often usurped trees there is now a need to restore a kinship with trees.

I have a dream. Oh Yes! A prophetic dream among so many dreams,

Perhaps the Ogham alphabet of ancient times can help resurrect one of these dreams,

Cattle and sheep can live and work side by side with many of these lovely future forests,

And most of all people can admire and enjoy and make use of these precious for ever forests.

I have a dream. Oh Yes! A timeless dream of dreams,

As children of the cosmos we should all be able to fulfil the promise of our dreams,

As custodians of life in our short lives we all deserve our place in the sun,

And however long or short that may be it should be ours to have just a little fun.
