What is the book about?
This book imagines life from a trees point of view. It delves into the lives of thirty three trees in one special grove in one special place on one special planet. This grove could in many respects be quite similar to any such gathering of trees near you.
The book chronicles the sequence of events occurring over one particularly dramatic year in the lives of the trees of the grove. Stories narrated by the trees range from tales of everyday life to some more unusual tales of tanglewood. They include the tale of a battle the trees have with microbes mirroring the conflict humanity is currently engaged in with COVID-19.
Although the books genre could be termed “tree fiction” recent innovative research suggests that some of the premises that underpin the tales may not be too far-fetched. The books theme and inferences reflect the authors very real concerns for the future of a world deprived of much of its tree cover.
The author, writing under the pseudonym Sylva is a forester who has over forty years’ experience working with trees and their environment. This has included forest research, forest management and environmental impact assessment in a range of countries. It has also included establishing and interpreting nature trails in numerous forests.
